The worldwide pandemic has put a stop to many plans and for the most part, it’s kept everybody from going about their daily lives as they used to. With 2020 over however, things are starting to look up and hopefully, everything will be returning to normal soon enough. Before that time though, it’s crucial to keep yourself informed of what’s going on – so here’s a quick run-down of some important COVID-19 news from 2021 so far.
Spain should achieve herd immunity from COVID-19 by summer
According to the Health Minister, Salvador Illa, the country should achieve herd immunity (when most of a population is immune to an infectious disease) from the coronavirus by the end of summer this year, if enough people are vaccinated. With this in mind, getting back to normal life should be much easier in a few months time. It might be worth taking advantage of the lower property prices now before they start to pick back up!
The mutated strain from the UK
A more infectious strain of the virus has developed and to help limit the global spread of it, a number of countries are banning travel from the UK. Due to the fear of this new strain causing even more distress, Spain has banned travel from the UK for the time being (although Spanish nationals are allowed to return). The good news is that this should end in a few months’ time as the pandemic lessens and life returns to normal.
Sending out the vaccine
News of a Covid vaccine has certainly been a relief for many people and thankfully, Spain’s planning to get vaccinations up to speed as soon as possible. While a recent storm has posed an issue, it won’t be long until Spanish residents will have access to the vaccine and hopefully, this will mark the beginning of the end for COVID-19.
What does this mean for the future?
While the situation isn’t perfect right now, there’s certainly the opportunity for things to improve drastically by the time 2021 is over. This means that buying a property doesn’t have wait. Thanks to technology, we have the ability to do so much even while limited physically; even virtual house tours are possible, especially for more high-end properties.
If you’re thinking of buying a house in Marbella, the good news is that you could take advantage of the current situation to get a great deal on a stunning new home, or perhaps even wait a little while longer until things calm down and you can go and see some properties in person.
Can I still buy or list my property in Spain?
While the pandemic does complicate things, you can rest assured that you can still go about your business when buying or selling a property. While most of the process does need to be taken care of online now, many aspects have been undertaken digitally for quite a few years, so this doesn’t pose too much of an issue. And at the very least, you could make a start on the process now, to speed up the transaction later on.
Is the situation in Spain looking to improve sooner or later?
If you do want to buy, you’ll probably be wondering how long before things start to return to normal. While there’s no way to know for sure, the fact that the Health Minister predicts that the country will achieve herd immunity by the summer means that there’s certainly a good chance that things are going to be looking up.
